Don’t get me wrong, you don’t want to skip the fundamentals. The physical and the practical elements of your musical studies are absolutely essential to your progress but they only represent one side of the coin.

Too many teachers and too many students ignore the part the mind plays in our journey toward musical greatness.

While concentrating so intently on training our fingers we often forget to do the same for our minds but, in my experience, this is where the real breakthroughs and the real ‘magical’ progress happens.
